Searching for victims in a smoke filled structure is not something easily accomplished. Not only is there very little visibility but also heat from the fire and the fact that the firefighters most likely have never been in the building before. Training in what is called a smoke house allows the firefighters to learn how to search through a building while crawling and using certain patterns to quickly search an entire structure.
